Sterra Sun — Water OverflowUpdated 2 days ago
If you notice water pooling underneath or leaking out of your Sterra Sun, take immediate steps to protect your floors and safely check your machine. Dehumidifiers naturally collect moisture from the air, but a stuck sensor or a clogged filter can cause that moisture to escape the tank.
Follow this quick guide to dry out the unit and stop the leak:
Step 1: Safe Power Down
Before cleaning up the water, turn the machine OFF and completely unplug it from the wall socket to eliminate any electrical risk.
Step 2: The Leak Investigation Sequence
1.1. Check the water tank sensor float: Fixes automatic shut-off failures.
Slide the water tank out and empty it. Look inside the tank for the small plastic float lever.
If the float is jammed by lint, tilted, or trapped under the plastic frame, the machine won't know when the tank is full.
Gently wiggle the float to make sure it clicks up and down smoothly on its hinge.
2.2. Inspect and clean the filter area: Prevents coil freezing leaks.
Remove the air filter from the unit. If a filter is completely choked with thick dust, it stops airflow. This causes the internal cooling coils to freeze over with thick ice, which eventually melts rapidly and overflows past the internal drainage trays.
Use a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush to clear away all accumulated dust from the filter mesh.
3.3. Dry the chamber and re-test: Reset the system.
Wipe down the empty water tank chamber with a dry towel. Ensure the clean filter is pushed all the way in and slide the water tank firmly back into place until it sits flush. Plug the unit back into the wall and monitor it closely.
Is your filter too old or clogged to clean?
If your filter is heavily caked with debris, discolored, or has been in continuous use for months, it needs to be completely replaced to restore proper airflow and stop coil freezing.
