Sterra S — Visible Minerals or Air Bubbles in Dispensed WaterUpdated an hour ago
What to Do If You See White Particles or Air Bubbles in Your Sterra S Water
If the water from your Sterra S looks cloudy, milky, or contains tiny white particles, there is no need to worry. This is a common, safe phenomenon that usually points to one of two things:
Micro-Air Bubbles: Microscopic pockets of air trapped under high pressure inside a brand-new filter.
Natural Mineral Flakes: Harmless, naturally occurring minerals (like calcium) that sometimes crystallize out of your tap water when heated or cooled by the machine.
Follow this quick guide to run an internal flush and test your water:
The Quick Visual Test
Before flushing, fill a clear glass with water and set it on your counter for 60 seconds:
If the cloudiness clears from the bottom up and vanishes completely, your water is 100% clear—it was simply harmless, oxygen-rich air bubbles!
If the particles settle at the bottom or float around, they are natural minerals. Follow the flushing steps below to clear them out.
The System Conditioning Flush Sequence
1.1. Start the high-volume flush:Bypasses standard cup sizes.
Place a large pitcher or bowl under the water spout. Press and hold the Filter button and the Volume button together for 5 full seconds. The Sterra S will beep and begin a continuous, automatic internal line purge.
2.2. Let the cycle finish:Clears active sediment.
Allow the machine to flush automatically until it stops dispensing on its own. Empty the pitcher into your sink once the cycle finishes.
3.3. Repeat the process 2 to 3 times:Fully conditions the filters.
To completely wash away any stubborn air pockets or loose mineral sediment trapped inside the filter casings, repeat this exact dual-button flush 2 or 3 more times.
Still seeing particles after 3 flushes?
If your water remains cloudy or continues to show heavy white flakes after multiple flushes, your local tap water supply might have exceptionally high mineral levels (hard water), or your internal filters may be ready for a scheduled change. Connect with our care team to further assist you.
