Sterra S — Error Icons Lit on Touch Panel — Temperature and Volume IconsUpdated 2 hours ago
If your Sterra S touch panel is locked up with both the Temperature (Cold/Warm/Hot) and Volume icons illuminated at the same time, your machine is experiencing a System Overheat and Water Starvation Lockout. This means the machine is out of water, which is causing its internal motors to work overtime and get too warm.
Please perform these 4 quick steps in order to clear the safety lock and get your water flowing again:
1. The 60-Second Deep Power Reset
Because the machine's safety sensors have locked the control panel, you must force the internal computer chip to clear its temporary error memory.
The Fix: Turn off the main power switch located at the back of the Sterra S and unplug the cord from the wall outlet. Leave the unit completely unplugged for 60 full seconds to drain the capacitive power, then leave it off while you check the connections below.
2. Verify Your Water Valves Are Fully Open
If someone was recently cleaning under the sink, or if your home had a temporary water interruption, a valve might be shut. The machine needs full water pressure to cool down its internal lines.
Check the Main Valve: Locate the metal T-valve connected directly to your home's copper or silver cold-water pipe. The small blue or metal handle must be turned completely parallel to the pipe.
Check the Line Valve: Follow the thin white plastic tube from the wall toward the machine and ensure any small plastic inline switch is turned to the fully open position.
💡 Visual Help: Check this Official Valve Position Photo Guide to verify your handles match our open configurations perfectly.
3. Wash the Rear Dust Filter & Check Clearance
If the back of your machine is caked in dust or pushed right against a wall, it will trap extreme heat inside the casing.
The Fix: Slide out the mesh dust filter from the back panel. Rinse it under warm running tap water to remove accumulated lint and pet hair. Let it dry completely before sliding it back in.
Pull the Sterra S forward so it has at least 10 to 15 cm of open air space away from the wall.
4. Restart and Re-Prime the System
Plug the machine back into a direct wall outlet and flip the rear switch to ON.
Let the machine complete its automatic startup sequence (you will hear internal beeps and clicks for about 15 seconds).
Once the display stabilizes, press Dispense to draw water and verify the error has cleared.
Still Seeing Both Error Icons?
If you have cleared your water lines, washed the filter, and performed a full power reset but the error lights immediately return, your internal heating or cooling sensors require a manual overview.
