Sterra Ray — Making Too Much NoiseUpdated 3 hours ago

The Sterra Ray is engineered to run smoothly and quietly in your home. If your dehumidifier is suddenly emitting a loud rattling, vibrating, buzzing, or heavy blowing sound, it usually means something is physically restricting its airflow or causing the heavy internal motor to shake against the floor.

Please perform these quick checks to restore peace and quiet to your space:

1. Optimize the Surface (Fixes Rattling or Vibrating Noises)

Because the Sterra Ray houses a heavy compressor to extract moisture, its internal motor creates minor spinning vibrations. If the unit isn't perfectly balanced, these vibrations will cause the plastic casing to rattle loudly against your floor.

  • The Fix: Move the Sterra Ray to a completely hard, flat, and stable surface like tile, hardwood, or a thick leveling mat. Avoid placing it on uneven tile lines, loose floorboards, or soft, plush rugs that can tilt the unit and cause internal components to knock together.

2. Clean the Back Air Filter (Fixes Loud Whistling or Choking Roars)

If your air filter is blanketed in household dust, lint, or pet dander, the machine's internal fan has to work twice as hard to pull air through the mesh. This creates a high-pitched whistling or a loud, hollow vacuum roar.

  • The Fix: Turn off and unplug the unit. Slide off the plastic mesh air filter panel from the back of the machine. Take it to the sink and give it a quick rinse with warm water, or use a vacuum hose to clear the dust layer. Let it dry completely, snap it back on, and check if the noise drops.

3. Secure and Empty the Water Tank (Fixes Low Buzzing or Shaking)

A half-full or slightly misaligned water reservoir can vibrate intensely against the inner frame of the dehumidifier as the motor runs.

  • The Fix: Slide out the water tank from the back and drain any collected water completely. Before sliding it back in, make sure there is no trapped debris or pet hair in the tracking grooves. Push the tank back in firmly until it sits completely flush against the machine's body.

Still Too Loud?

If you have verified the machine is perfectly level, the filter is spotless, and the water tank is securely flush, but the unit continues to make a harsh, metallic grinding or loud clanking sound, please turn it off immediately for safety.
