Sterra Paws — Too LoudUpdated 4 hours ago
The Sterra Paws is engineered to be whisper-quiet, especially on lower settings. If your machine is making a loud rattling, vibrating, or heavy rushing sound, it usually means something is physically restricting the air or causing the machine to shake.
Please perform these quick checks to restore peace and quiet to your home:
1. The Filter Wrapper Check (Loud "Roaring" or "Choking" Sound)
If you recently set up your Sterra Paws or just put in a new filter, a loud rushing sound usually means the filter's protective packaging is still inside.
The Cause: New filters ship inside a completely sealed, clear plastic wrapper to keep them fresh. If the filter is installed with this plastic on, the motor will desperately choke for air, creating a loud, hollow vacuum roar.
The Fix: Turn off and unplug the machine. Open the bottom cover, pull out the filter, and make sure all clear plastic film has been completely peeled off and discarded.
2. The Surface Alignment Check (Loud "Rattling" or "Vibrating" Sound)
Because the internal fan spins at high speeds, any uneven footing will turn your floor into a sounding board, amplifying standard motor hums into a loud rattle.
The Cause: If the unit is sitting on an uneven tile line, a thick rug edge, or a crooked floorboard, the rubber feet underneath cannot absorb the vibration.
The Fix: Move the Sterra Paws to a completely hard, flat, and level surface. Give the machine a gentle nudge to ensure all feet are making firm, even contact with the floor.
3. Check for Trapped Pet Hair or Debris
Since the Sterra Paws is a pet-focused purifier, it pulls in large amounts of floating fur.
Unplug the unit and look down through the top grill with a flashlight.
If a toy, a loose piece of kibble, or a large clump of matted pet hair has fallen past the grill into the fan blades, it will create an un-balanced clicking or buzzing sound. Clear any visible blockages out.
Still Too Loud?
If you have verified the plastic wrap is off, the machine is perfectly level, and the fan blades are clear, but it still makes an unusually loud mechanical grinding noise, tap the fan speed button down to Sleep Mode. If the noise persists, your internal motor bearings may have unseated.
