Sterra Nova — Poor PerformanceUpdated an hour ago

If your Sterra Nova isn't clearing odors properly, feels like it has weak airflow, or isn't purifying the room as quickly as it used to, please follow these simple maintenance checks to restore its performance:

1. Check for the Plastic Filter Wrap (New Units)

  • If you recently purchased or unboxed your Sterra Nova, turn the unit upside down, open the base cover, and pull out the filter.

  • Crucial Step: Ensure that the plastic protective shipping wrap has been completely removed from the filter. Leaving the plastic on will block 100% of the air and heavily strain the fan motor.

2. Inspect and Clean the Pre-Filter

  • Dust, pet fur, and large lint can accumulate on the outside of the filter over time, completely suffocating the airflow.

  • The Fix: Remove the filter and use a vacuum cleaner (with a brush attachment) or a dry cloth to gently clean the outer grey fabric layer (Pre-Filter).

  • Note: Never wash the Sterra Nova True HEPA filter with water, as moisture will permanently destroy the static charge needed to trap microscopic particles.

3. Clear Air Intakes and Outlets

  • Make sure there are no foreign objects, curtains, or loose papers resting against the side intake grilles or the top air outlet.

  • Give it Space: Ensure the Sterra Nova has at least 1 to 2 feet of open space on all sides. Tucking the purifier deep into a corner or underneath a desk heavily restricts its ability to circulate the air in the room.

4. Check the Filter Lifespan

  • Is your filter indicator light flashing? Filters typically last between 6 to 12 months depending on the air quality in your home. If your filter is gray, heavily clogged, or past its expiration date, it's time to replace it to restore full purification power.
