Sterra Nova — Loud Noise Hissing or Flapping Sound from Motor Fan AreaUpdated 9 hours ago
If your Sterra Nova is producing an unusual loud noise—such as a sharp hissing or a fast flapping sound coming directly from the upper motor or fan grille area—please remain completely reassured. This rarely means the motor is permanently broken or failing!
These specific acoustic sounds typically point to a Localized Airflow Obstruction or Intruding Debris.
Flapping sounds are almost always caused by a loose piece of foreign material (like a stray plastic wrapper fragment, a shipping label edge, a large clump of pet lint, or a piece of paper) caught in the high-speed turbine blades.
Hissing sounds usually indicate a localized aerodynamic pressure variance, often caused by a microscopic gap where air is whistling past an unseated filter or a partially blocked intake mesh.
You can easily inspect the air path, clear away obstructions, and restore your system’s whisper-quiet performance at home by completing this quick diagnostic sequence:
The Airway Obstruction & Visual Inspection Sequence
Please complete these steps systematically to locate and clear the source of the noise:
1.Power Down and Conduct a Grille Safety Check
Turn off the Sterra Nova and completely unplug the power cord from the wall outlet to ensure absolute safety.
Shine a bright flashlight or smartphone light directly down through the top exhaust grille and into the rear intake vents. Peer closely between the protective fins to look for any hidden foreign objects—such as trapped insects, plastic packaging pieces, dropped paperclips, or dense hair build-up—touching the fan blades.
2.Extract Debris and Audit the Filter Alignment
If you spot any foreign debris resting inside the fan area, gently remove it if it is safely reachable, or use a vacuum cleaner nozzle over the grille to draw the object out.
Next, twist open the lower filter compartment, slide out the cylindrical filter core, and check that all protective plastic shipping wraps have been completely removed. Re-insert the filter, ensuring it sits perfectly straight, level, and flush within its tracking rails before locking the base cover tight. (An unaligned filter causes air to bypass the seals, creating a sharp whistling or hissing noise!)
3.Power On and Listen to the Airflow Baseline
Plug the machine back into the wall outlet, power it on, andcycle through the fan speeds from lowest to highest.
Listen closely to the acoustic profile. For the vast majority of users, removing the trapped item or reseating the filter will instantly eliminate the structural noise and return the machine to its normal, smooth aerodynamic sound.
What to Do If the Loud Noise Persists
If you have thoroughly inspected the fan area, cleared out all visible debris, and confirmed that the filter is seated perfectly straight, but the loud hissing or flapping sound stubbornly continues, the issue may stem from an internal component alignment variance, a loose fan blade balance clip, or an internal bearing issue deep within the factory-sealed motor housing.
Because the turbine motor and high-voltage electrical lines are permanently sealed within the protective chassis to preserve aerodynamic integrity and user safety, they cannot be safely opened or disassembled at home.

1.Record a Continuous 1-Minute Audio/Visual Video
Place your Sterra Nova in a quiet spot. Record a continuous video of at least 1 minute capturing the machine operating live.
Start the video at least 30 cm away, then slowly bring your smartphone microphone close to the top exhaust grille and rear intake vents so our engineering depot can clearly hear the exact pitch and volume of the hissing or flapping sound. Let the camera run continuously for a full minute across different fan speeds.
2.Submit Your Direct Support Request
Log into your account portal, attach your 1-minute video, and copy-and-paste the following message directly to our live agents:

Submit a support ticket describing the issue.
Attach a short video (at least 1 minute long) showing the error happening. This will help our technical team diagnose and resolve the issue much faster for you.
📌 Support Message Template: "My Sterra Nova is emitting a loud, persistent hissing/flapping sound from the motor fan area. I have followed the Help Center guide to inspect the interior fan blades for foreign objects and verified that the filter is perfectly unwrapped and seated flush, but the noise continues. I have attached the required 1-minute audio/visual troubleshooting video capturing the sound for immediate file handover to a live agent."
