Sterra Mars — Loud Noise Hissing or Flapping Sound from Motor Fan AreaUpdated 12 hours ago
If your Sterra Mars suddenly begins making a loud noise, a distinct hissing sound, or a rapid flapping vibration from the internal fan area, please be completely reassured. This does not mean the heavy-duty electric motor has experienced a catastrophic mechanical breakdown!
This symptom is typically caused by a Physical Airflow Obstruction. Your air purifier relies on perfectly balanced, high-velocity aerodynamics to pull thousands of cubic feet of air through its multi-layered filtration matrix. If the protective plastic packaging around a replacement filter was inadvertently left on, the rushing air will wildly vibrate against the plastic sheet, creating a loud hissing or suffocating whistle. Alternatively, if a lightweight piece of debris, stray thread, or large insect bypasses the outer grille and settles against the high-speed fan blades, it creates a rapid flapping sound as the blades spin.
You can easily clear the airflow path and restore a whisper-quiet purification experience at home by completing this quick inspection sequence:
The Fan Area & Airway Clearance Sequence
Please turn off the power and completely unplug the unit from the wall outlet before performing these checks:
1.Check and Remove the Filter's Plastic Cover
Open the main filter compartment panel and slide the cylindrical filter out of the chassis. Inspect it thoroughly.
Ensure that the protective transparent plastic shipping wrap has been completely removed from the entire filter body. Operating the unit with the plastic wrapper still attached chokes the intake, causing severe air-starvation hissing and a crinkling/flapping sound as air attempts to pass through.
2.Conduct a Visual Check for Foreign Objects
With the filter safely removed, grab a flashlight and peer directly into the empty internal chamber toward the fan assembly.
Slowly spin the visible fan area and do a careful visual check for any loose debris, dropped papers, threads, or insects that may have slipped through the outer grilles and gotten stuck inside. Carefully remove any foreign objects with a pair of tweezers or a long micro-brush.
3.Reinstall the Filter and Power Cycle the Unit
Slide the completely unwrapped filter firmly back into its tracking cradle and close the compartment panel securely.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and turn the unit on. Cycle through the fan speeds; with the packaging removed and any loose debris cleared from the blades, the air column will stabilize and return to its normal, whisper-quiet operational baseline.
What to Do If the Loud Noise or Flapping Persists
For 95% of users, simply stripping away the temporary shipping plastic or removing a trapped foreign object will instantly silence the machine.
However, if you have verified the filter is 100% unwrapped, confirmed the chamber is completely empty, but the unit stubbornly continues to emit a loud scraping, clicking, or structural flapping sound, an internal fan misalignment or factory blade deformation may be causing the fan to physically strike the inner housing walls.
Because an internal mechanical misalignment cannot be safely adjusted at home, please log into our Customer Support portal to hand over your file directly to a live specialist:
1.Record a Continuous Verification Video with Clear Audio:1 Minute.
Place your Sterra Mars on a flat surface. Record a continuous video of at least 1 minute capturing the purifier running.
Start the video by showing that the filter is unwrapped, turn the machine on, and move your phone's microphone close to the top air outlet grille so our technical team can clearly hear the exact frequency and pitch of the sound. Let the camera run continuously for a full minute.
2.Submit Your Direct Support Request:1 Minute.
Log into your account portal, attach your 1-minute video, and copy-and-paste the following message directly to our live agents:

Submit a support ticket describing the issue.
Attach a short video (at least 1 minute long) showing the error happening. This will help our technical team diagnose and resolve the issue much faster for you.
📌 Support Message Template: "My Sterra Mars is making a loud noise from the motor fan area. I have followed the Help Center guide to ensure the filter plastic cover is removed and verified that there are no visible foreign objects stuck inside, but the flapping/hissing sound persists. I have attached the required 1-minute video with clear audio for immediate review and hardware replacement authorization by a live agent."
