Sterra Breeze Pro — Burning Carbon or Metallic SmellUpdated 3 hours ago
If you notice a sharp, metallic, or faint burning odor coming from your Sterra Breeze Pro, please take a deep breath and try not to worry. While a burning scent can occasionally indicate an electrical issue, it is highly common for a brand-new Activated Carbon Filter to emit a distinct, charcoal-like metallic scent during its first few days of continuous operation.
To help you quickly identify whether you are experiencing a completely harmless "new filter smell" or a hardware issue that requires technical attention, please walk through this quick isolation test.
The 5-Minute Odor Isolation Test
The Sterra Breeze Pro is equipped with an internal safety switch that stops the machine from running when the filter is missing. Follow these steps to bypass the clip temporarily and pinpoint the exact source of the scent safely:
Power Down and Remove the Filter
Turn your Sterra Breeze Pro completely off and unplug it from the wall. Open the filter panel, slide out the filter cartridge, and take a direct sniff of the filter material itself. If the filter smells strongly of charcoal or sweet metal, it is likely just normal carbon gas-off.
Locate and Hold the Safety Sensor Clip
With the filter completely removed, look inside the empty chamber cavity. Locate the small plastic Filter Sensor Clip (the lever that detects if a filter is present). With your finger, manually press and hold that clip down firmly to trick the machine into thinking the door is shut.
Run the Machine Empty and Sniff the Air
While keeping the sensor clip held down with one hand, plug the machine back in and turn it on with your other hand. Let the fan run completely empty for 30 to 60 seconds and sniff the air exiting the top grill. Turn the unit off immediately after testing.

Result A: The empty air smells completely clean and normal
If the smell completely vanishes when the filter is out of the machine, your Sterra Breeze Pro is 100% healthy!
The scent is simply coming from the highly concentrated, fresh activated carbon pellets absorbing room moisture. This is a completely normal, non-toxic behavior for high-grade carbon filters.
✅ The Solution: Slide the filter back in and let the machine run continuously on high speed near an open window for 24 to 48 hours. The fresh carbon scent will completely dissipate on its own, and your machine will run odorless.
Result B: The smell is coming from the empty machine itself
If you run the machine without the filter and you still smell a harsh, acrid, burning plastic or heavy electrical metallic scent, this indicates an internal wiring terminal or Power Control Board (PCB) overheat issue.
🛑 The Solution: Turn the machine off immediately, unplug it from the wall, and do not run it again.
Action Required: If the Smell is From the Unit Itself
If your isolation test proves the burning or heavy metallic scent is originating directly from the internal motor or power board components (Result B), we fast-track your file immediately.

📌 What to tell us: Let our live agent know: "My Sterra Breeze Pro is emitting a burning/metallic smell. I have completed the isolation test and confirmed the smell comes directly from the empty unit itself, not the filter. I need a priority handover to schedule a showroom drop-off."
