Sterra 8 — E04 Cooling Function ErrorUpdated 39 minutes ago

If your Sterra 8 is displaying a cooling error or showing the code E04, the internal computer has temporarily paused the cooling system. This happens as a protective safety measure if the cooling compressor experiences a temporary power surge, runs continuously during a heavy volume of cold water draws, or lacks proper ventilation airflow around the back of the machine.

You can easily perform a system reset at home using a quick power cycle.

The Reset Procedure

Because the cooling system relies on a specialized refrigerant and compressor to chill your water, the system requires a short period of downtime during a reset to completely stabilize its pressure lines.


Power Down the Unit:.

Locate the main power toggle switch on the side or back of your Sterra 8. Flip the switch to OFF, then safely unplug the heavy power cord directly from the wall electrical socket.

Check Unit Ventilation:

While the machine is off, ensure there is at least a 10 cm (4 inch) gap of open space between the back cooling vents of the Sterra 8 and your kitchen wall. Trapped hot air behind the machine is a frequent cause of cooling overloads.

Plug In and Power Up:.

After waiting 60 seconds, plug the power cord back into the wall socket firmly and switch the main power toggle back to ON.

Wait 2 Hours Before Testing:

Leave the machine entirely alone for 2 hours. Do not attempt to dispense cold water or tap the panel buttons during this window. This gives the internal cooling tank and compressor the necessary time to cycle down, reset the safety chips, and begin chilling a fresh batch of water.


What to Do If the E04 Error Persists

If the 2-hour wait window has passed, but the cooling error light or E04 code remains on the panel, or if the water being dispensed is strictly room temperature, the internal compressor or temperature sensor will need to be looked at by a professional.
