Sterra 7 — Water Leakage from the FilterUpdated 2 hours ago

If you notice water pooling underneath your filter compartment or dripping from the internal filter bracket, it is usually caused by a filter cartridge that didn't lock fully into place during installation, or a twisted rubber O-ring seal.

Follow this quick guide to safely check, reseat, and resolve a filter area leak.

Step 1: Isolate the Water & Inspect the Filter

Before removing any parts, you must shut off the water supply to prevent water from spraying inside the electrical compartment.

  1. Shut Off the Water: Trace the thin water line behind the machine down to the small blue plastic inline valve and flip the handle to a 90-degree angle (perpendicular to the tube) to turn the water off.

  2. Open the Compartment: Open the filter door on the side or back of your Sterra 7. Wipe up any standing water with a dry cloth so you can track where new leaks appear.

  3. Remove and Inspect: Twist the leaking filter cartridge to unlock it, then pull it straight down and out. Look closely at the top neck of the filter:

    • Ensure the two small rubber rings (O-rings) on the tip are completely intact, flat, and haven't slipped out of their grooves.

    • Wipe away any stray water droplets or grit from the black rubber rings.

Step 2: Firmly Reseat and Lock the Filter

A slight physical misalignment can prevent the machine's internal water ports from sealing cleanly against the filter tip.

  1. Align the filter cartridge back into its designated slot.

  2. Push Up and Twist: Push the filter upward firmly, then twist it forcefully until you feel it click or lock into its absolute final position. It must sit completely straight and flush.

  3. Test the Connection: Turn your blue inline water valve back to the OPEN position (parallel to the tube). Watch the filter head closely for 60 seconds.

Step 3: What to Do If It Still Leaks

If you have firmly locked the filter into place but water immediately begins to bead up or drip from the connection point again, the seals on that specific cartridge are compromised, or the cartridge plastic is hairline fractured.

  • If your filter is brand new: It may have a rare manufacturing defect on its sealing neck. Please contact our support team immediately for a free swap.

  • If your filter is older than 6 months: It has reached the end of its natural lifespan. The high pressure over time can weaken older seals. Please replace the leaking cartridge with a fresh, authentic Sterra 7 filter to instantly stop the leak.

Need Extra Help?

If you have installed a brand-new replacement filter and locked it in tightly, but the compartment continues to leak water, the internal receiver bracket itself may require a professional repair.

Please flip the blue water valve back to the OFF position and contact our Customer Support Team. Let us know that you have already tried reseating and replacing the filter cartridge, and we will immediately fast-track an urgent on-site technician visit to inspect your unit!
