Sterra 7 — Unpleasant Taste or Odour from Dispensed WaterUpdated 2 hours ago
If the water from your Sterra 7 has suddenly developed an unusual taste (like a metallic, plastic, or flat flavor) or a faint odor, it can easily be resolved at home.
This issue is typically caused by stagnant water sitting in the supply lines, minor mineral buildup in the plumbing connections, or an internal filter that is ready to be replaced. Follow these three steps to restore your water to its crisp, refreshing quality.
Step 1: Force a Manual System Flush (15 Minutes)
If you haven't used your machine for a couple of days, or if water has been sitting still in the plumbing lines, a comprehensive internal flush will clear out the old water and replace it with fresh, newly purified water.
Locate the touch control panel on your Sterra 7.
Press and hold both the Self-Care and Ambient buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds.
Watch the Panel: The machine will enter its automated cleaning cycle, and the main dispense button will pulse slowly in a "breathing" light pattern.
Wait 15 Minutes: Do not touch the panel or attempt to drink the water during this time. Let the cycle run uninterrupted until all the flashing panel lights turn completely off.
Tip: Once complete, dispense and discard about 1 cup of water before taking your first sip.
Step 2: Check Your Filter Lifespan
If the 15-minute flush does not entirely fix the taste, the internal carbon filters have likely reached maximum capacity and can no longer trap odors or chlorine from your tap water.
Has it been more than 6 months since your last filter change? Over months of regular use, your filters act like a sponge. After 6 months, they become saturated and lose their ability to crisp up the water's flavor profile.
🎁 Our Support Promise: If your filters are older than 6 months and you suspect they are causing the taste issue, please go ahead and order a fresh replacement pack. If our support team later determines that an underlying mechanical part or valve line was the actual culprit, any filters used during this troubleshooting process will be replaced completely free of charge.
Step 3: Inspect the T-Valve & Main Supply Tube
Sometimes the taste or smell isn't coming from the machine itself, but from the raw source water sitting in the connection lines under your sink.
Locate the Metal T-Valve: Check the small plumbing splitter connected to your household cold water pipe under the sink. If it has gathered rust or mineral crust on the outside, it may be affecting the intake line.
Examine the Supply Tube: Ensure the thin tube running from the wall to the Sterra 7 isn't resting against hot water pipes or chemical cleaning bottles under your sink, which can bleed heat or plastic odors through the tube wall.
