Sterra 7 — Screeching Da-Da-Da Sound When Dispensing WaterUpdated 2 hours ago
If your Sterra 7 is making an unusual humming, buzzing, or clicking sound, and it is struggling to dispense water or drain correctly, there is typically a blockage in your drainage line, or an internal electronic valve (called a solenoid) is jammed.
When these valves or the drain line are restricted, the machine's internal pumps have to work twice as hard, which creates a noticeable vibrating noise. Follow this quick check to clear the lines.
Step 1: Inspect and Clear the Drain Tube
A physical blockage in the waste lines is the most common cause of abnormal system noises and drainage back-ups.
Locate the drain tube: Find the thin waste-water tube exiting the back of your Sterra 7. Trace it down to where it connects underneath your kitchen sink or runs into your drainage pipe.
Check for kinks or pinches: Ensure the tube isn’t bent sharply, pinched behind heavy cabinetry, or trapped under items stored under your sink.
Check the tube opening: Verify that the end of the drain tube isn't submerged deep under stagnant water or clogged with food debris inside your sink trap. Clean away any buildup around the tube opening.
Step 2: Listen to the Machine
Once you have verified that the drain tube and your under-sink pipes are completely clear, turn your Sterra 7 back on and try to dispense water.
Did the noise disappear? If the unusual sound stops and water flows normally, a small backup in the drain line was the culprit. Your machine is good to go!
Does the loud noise persist? If the machine is still making a loud humming, clicking, or vibrating noise, the issue is mechanical. This indicates that one of the internal electronic water valves (the dispense or cold solenoids) or the main PCB control board is malfunctioning.
Step 3: What to Do Next
If clearing the drain line didn't stop the noise, your Sterra 7 requires a professional component replacement. Internal electrical valves and circuit boards cannot be serviced safely at home.
