Sterra Y — Machine is Noisy or Produces a Loud SoundUpdated a day ago

A healthy Sterra Y operates with a quiet, low hum while heating or cooling. However, if your machine begins making loud, unexpected noises, the exact type of sound will tell us how to resolve it.

Listen closely to your machine and select the matching symptom below to resolve the issue:

⚠️ Symptom A: Loud Horn-like Honking or Deep Humming

This is caused by an airlock (pockets of trapped air whistling inside the water lines or filter heads). You can easily purge the air and silence the system using this sequence:

1.1. Isolate the water supply line:Prevents high-pressure leaks while servicing.

Locate the small blue inlet valve on the water tubing behind the machine. Turn it to the closed position. If your installation does not have a blue valve, turn off the main metal water lever under your kitchen sink.

2.2. Shut off system power: Ensures electronic valves are closed.

Reach behind the Sterra Y and flip the master power switch to the OFF ( O ) position, then safely unplug the unit from the wall socket.

3.3. Reseat all purification filters: Resets the internal pressure seals.

Open the side filter compartment door. One by one, firmly grip each water filter and twist to the left to remove it from its head. Watch this helpful visual walkthrough to see the motion: Filter Removal Video Guide. Reinsert each filter into its slot and twist firmly to the right until it locks securely into place.

4.4. Restore water and power lines: Purges out the trapped air pockets.

Turn your water valve back ON to pressurize the line, plug the machine back into the wall socket, and switch the power button ON. Dispense 2–3 cups of water to flush out any remaining air pockets.

⚠️ Symptom B: Constant Metallic Vibrating or Rattling

If the sound is a loud, structural vibration that stops when you firmly press your hand against the outer casing of the machine, it is caused by an unaligned internal compressor suction spring.

  • Action: Do not try to open the chassis yourself. Reach out to Customer Support.

⚠️ Symptom C: Loud, Straining Compressor Buzzing

If the compressor sounds like it is struggling or running continuously without stopping, the unit is likely overheating due to poor air circulation.

  • Action: Ensure your Sterra Y has a clear gap of 10–15 cm of open space on its left, right, and rear sides. If the loud straining continues after creating this breathing room, contact our team immediately
