Sterra Y — Cannot Dispense Cold WaterUpdated a day ago

If your Sterra Y is only dispensing room-temperature or ambient water when you press the cold water button, the cooling loop needs a systematic reset.

Follow these 4 simple steps to check your switches, optimize airflow, and test if your cooling engine is starting up correctly:

The Cooling System Diagnostic & Reset Sequence

1.1. Confirm the rear cooling switch is turned ON: Verifies sub-circuit power.

Look at the back panel of your Sterra Y. Locate the dedicated black switch (which controls the cooling loop). Ensure it is firmly flipped to the ON ( I ) position. If it was switched off, toggle it on and wait 30 minutes to see if the water begins to chill.

2.2. Execute a complete 2-hour power drain: Clears system logic lag.

If the switch was already on, turn the main power switch at the back OFF, pull the power cord out of the wall completely, and let the machine rest undisturbed for at least 2 full hours. This fully discharges the internal control boards.

3.3. Establish a 10cm–15cm airflow clearance buffer: Prevents thermal feedback.

While the machine rests, check its positioning. Ensure your Sterra Y has a minimum of 10cm to 15cm (about 4 to 6 inches) of completely open space on its left side, right side, and back panel. If the machine is pushed flush against walls or inside tight cabinets, it cannot vent heat and will stop chilling water.

4.4. Re-power and check the rear panel for warm air: Isolates the cooling engine status.

Plug the machine back directly into the wall and turn it ON. Wait 30 to 45 minutes, then place your hand near the back metal panel:

  • If the back panel feels slightly warm: Your cooling engine (compressor) is working! The system just needed airflow or an electronic reset. Give it another hour to fully chill the internal reservoir.

  • If the back panel stays completely cold: The compressor is failing to start due to a faulty thermostat, broken relay, or gas leak. Move to the support step below.

Still not getting cold water after the reset?

If your Sterra Y back panel remains completely cold after the 2-hour reset, or if the water continues to dispense warm despite a running compressor, your unit has suffered a internal cooling system failure.

  1. Log in to our Customer Support Portal.

  2. Submit a support ticket describing the issue.

  3. Attach a short video (at least 1 minute long) showing the error happening. This will help our technical team diagnose and resolve the issue much faster for you.
