Sterra Moon — Cannot Open Filter CoverUpdated 16 hours ago
If you are trying to perform a routine maintenance check or replace your filter, but the bottom cover of your Sterra Moon feels completely jammed or refuses to rotate open, please be completely reassured. This does not mean the locking tabs are broken or that your device has suffered permanent structural damage!
This symptom is usually caused by a Filter Alignment Compression Lock. The Sterra Moon features a twist-to-lock bottom cover that seals the internal air chamber. Inside, a high-density foam gasket on the filter acts as an airtight seal to ensure all incoming air passes strictly through the purification layers. If the filter was inserted at a slight angle during the last replacement, or if the gasket expanded slightly over time, it can create strong upward pressure against the locking tabs. This compression can make the cover feel incredibly tight or seemingly "stuck" in place when you try to twist it.
You can easily break this vacuum pressure and safely release the bottom cover at home by following this quick mechanical adjustment sequence:
The Filter Cover Release & Realignment Sequence
Please unplug the unit from the wall outlet and place it upside down on a flat, stable surface before applying these steps:
1.Apply Counter-Pressure and Rotate the Cover
Place the Sterra Moon upside down on a soft surface (like a towel or carpet) to protect the top dome from scratches.
Firmly place both hands on the base cover. Press down vertically with moderate force to compress the internal foam gasket. While holding that downward pressure, rotate the cover left and right firmly in the opposite direction of the arrows to snap the locking tracks out of their compression bind.
2.Remove and Shake the Filter Element
Once the cover twists free, lift it away and pull the cylindrical filter completely out of the inner chamber.
Give the filter a gentle shake to dislodge any trapped debris, pet hair, or micro-particles that might have wedged themselves between the filter body and the inner walls of the plastic chassis. Clean any loose dust off the inner tracking rails.
3.Properly Seat and Reseal the Assembly
Slide the filter back into the chamber, ensuring it sits completely flush and level against the bottom tracking lip without slanting.
Place the cover back over the base, line up the alignment notches, and twist it shut. Because the filter is now properly seated, the cover will glide smoothly along the locking tracks and lock securely into place without sticking.
What to Do If the Base Cover Stubbornly Refuses to Budge
For 95% of users, applying a little downward counter-pressure to relax the foam gasket will instantly free up the locking tabs so the cover can twist open smoothly.
However, if you have applied firm vertical pressure and attempted to rotate the base, but the cover stubbornly remains frozen or fused to the main housing, a rare factory plastic tracking variance or a structural cross-thread might be completely locking the components together.

1.Record a Continuous 1-Minute Verification Video:
Place your upside-down Sterra Moon on a flat surface. Record a continuous video of at least 1 minute capturing your physical interaction with the base.
Start the video by showing that the machine is completely unplugged, then firmly press down and attempt to twist the cover left and right on camera to clearly demonstrate that the plastic tracks are locked solid and completely stuck. Let the camera run continuously for a full minute to capture the resistance.

📌 Support Message Template: "The base filter cover on my Sterra Moon cannot be opened. I have followed the Help Center guide to apply downward counter-pressure and attempted to rotate it in opposite directions, but the cover remains completely locked in a compression bind. I have attached the required 1-minute troubleshooting video demonstrating the stuck assembly for immediate review by a live agent."
